New urban farm coming alongside Recovery Cafe

MercyCo, Community Lutheran Church and the Center for Land-Based Learning completed an agreement in mid-December to bring a new urban farm to church-owned property alongside the Recovery Cafe.

CLBL will operate the quarter-acre farm, located at the corner of Drever Street and Jackson Street in West Sacramento. Produce from the farm will be made available in the cafe (and a lot of other places), and the farm will also be the site of School for Recovery classes in gardening and growing.

“What's so exciting is the short distance the food will travel from the field to the plate,” said the CLBL’s Ric Murphy. “Just over 100 feet from harvest to kitchen.  You really can't get fresher than that!

Mercy Resource Station moving to Drever Street

After a decade of working out of the Collings Teen Center, the Mercy Coalition just signed a lease for more than 3,000 square feet of space at 929 Drever - across the street from the Recovery Cafe!

Thanks to support from Sutter Health, it's all part of the growing Mosaic Village ecosystem of programs and services surrounding the cafe. This new space will give us more room for moving emergency food, clothing and hygiene items out to the community, and also act as a hub for workforce development, support meetings, paid internships for our target population, and an administrative center.

Mosaic City Breakfast returns on March 21

Last spring, a funny thing happened on our way to the inaugural Mosaic City Breakfast benefiting the Recovery Cafe. We discovered a surging spirit of collaborative compassion, possibility and resolve across our city - a belief in the power of restorative community for individuals impacted by homelessness, substance-abuse disorders, mental-health challenges, and trauma.

That stirring vision has continued to gain momentum and tangible expression in West Sacramento. You’re invited to be a part of the excitement at the 2nd annual Mosaic City Breakfast, being held March 21, 2024 at the Center for Spiritual Awareness in West Sacramento.

A Very Big Day of Giving Thank You!

Big Day of Giving was such an incredible gift and encouragement to all of us in the Mercy Coalition. Together you helped us raise an incredible $15,643 during the Sacramento area’s biggest nonprofit fundraising day of the year.

On top of the $10,643 raised by 69 individual donors in BDOG 22, our friends at the Lyon Cares Foundation - for the second straight year - awarded a $5,000 check to the Mercy Coalition as part of their BDOG philanthropy. All of this funding supports our work with those impacted by homelessness, poverty, addiction and mental-health struggles.
